It was the medium of television that brought Gerald to my attention 45-50 years ago, and it was television that brought him back to my attention in early 2005. As a kid I loved the TV Westerns, the good quality Warner Brothers shows like Maverick, Cheyenne, Bronco, Outlaws and many others. And there was this actor who kept cropping up every few weeks or so, always the villain, always ending up face down in the dust before the end of the episode. So what attracted me to him all these years ago, I hear you ask? The same thing that attracts me to him still, gentle reader. His skill as an actor, creating a variety of different characters with ease and conviction, his voice, his handsome good looks and the strong, intelligent personality I saw, and still see, behind the characters he created. And, oh, yes, that smile! A man I would have loved to have met, talked theatre with “till the cows come home”.
