I returned to Stockholm and to Lidingö Kyrka on Thursday 11 June to pay my respects to Gerald’s memory and to leave a new card and flowers at his stone. I was again accompanied by Sven Erick Alm, Gerald’s step-nephew. After visiting Gerald’s stone we went to the Church Office where I again met Anneli Ericksson, the Church Officer. We discussed financial upkeep of the gravestone, which I agreed to undertake on an annual basis. She then gave me a booklet prepared by the Church Office: “A Tour of Lidingö Churchyard” in Swedish, which featured a whole-page colour picture of Gerald’s stone and a short commentary on the opposite page which reads “Gerald Mohr, American actor in films like West Side Story (an error, should be “Wild West Story”!), Gilda and Funny Girl. Worked with Orson Welles. Mohr, often likened to Humphrey Bogart, died in Söder in Stockholm after filming “Private Entrance”. Anneli kindly gave me a free copy of this fascinating booklet.
On my return to Stockholm later that afternoon, I met by previous appointment Christina Schollin in her shop in Gamla Stan. Christina was Gerald’s leading lady in “Private Entrance”. She very graciously chatted to me about her life at that time but confessed that, although I had given her a copy of “Private Entrance”, she was unable to recall anything specific about the work she had done with Gerald. I told her that I was hoping to meet Bert Sundberg, Production Manager on the show, and Pontus Gustafson, who played the boy ‘Tag’ and she asked me to convey her best wishes to them. She informed me that another actor, Olof Thunberg, who played Mr Strohmer, lived locally and she very kindly phoned him for me and I was able to chat briefly with him. I promised to send him a copy of “Private Entrance” as well, which has now been done. Christina then very kindly permitted me to take a photo of her in the shop.
